To Poker or not to Poker

Poker has been played since 1829 and even earlier during the height of the Persian glory and then transmitted by the French and then Germans. It is a wonder how it still entices players to this old game.

The reward in playing poker are varied. Entertainment, money, challenge are just a few of the reason why one should try poker. And if ever you decide to play, there are some skills you need to have so as not to be totally frustrated.

Money is the number one issue. There have been lots of stories and sharing from people young and old that playing poker and participating in tournament supplements the income they have.

Aside from the monetary gain from winning the game it has a heavy social reward. Poker is a game not meant to be played alone. Surely some people will join and later on through constant playing and meetings, you eventually become friends. Maybe having some petty fights over the winnings and losing but still friends. If you play f with friends, play with low bets this makes games not only fun but, more friendly.

Being a competitive game, some will enjoy the challenge. The thrill of it can often be quite irresistible. The mixture of luck and skills in winning makes it more appealing than playing tennis or soccer for some. You win not just because you smash the ball very hard and it is not as irritating that someone won just by pure chance. But be careful with this because attaching money in this game could mean financial downfall for those who do not watch their money go.

Some parts of poker include analysis. When you practice analyzing often you improve your judgement on everyday things. You become keen in your logic and able to implement strategies smoothly. To win, a player must know decisively when to toss and when to fold.

With these benefits, one must be aware that to play poker successfully players must know the probabilities in the game. He or she must know what card and how many cards will improve your hand.

In poker you need to empathize. You need to walk in somebody elses shoes and understand why they make such decisions. A player must also anticipate what are the opponents' next moves so as to stay ahead. Good poker players are able to assess the situations as they occur.

A good poker player is able to balance risks and rewards. They should know how much money to risk and the expected returns. They don't blindly go into a game and recklessly lose the big money.

Poker players also have discipline. If they are determined to win a game, they go through a lot of planning and thinking. There are some that spend hours and hours playing the game and they are still not professionals. Now, how much more hours do professions play to be in their status?
